Stephen Markham was an early member of the LDS Church, a friend of Joseph Smith, and a pioneer. He was also a Colonel in the Nauvoo Legion. He was with Joseph Smith in Carthage until he was driven out of the city at bayonet point by an angry mob until blood filled his boots. Joseph was martyred later that night.
